Crowns (caps)
A crown covers the whole visible part of a tooth. It protects a tooth that is badly broken, heavily filled or has had a root canal, and restores its shape and strength.
Bridges
A bridge replaces one or more missing teeth. It is fixed to the healthy teeth on either side of the gap, so it doesn't come out like a denture.
Filling the gap helps you chew properly and stops the nearby teeth from drifting.
What happens
- We examine the tooth and take an X-ray.
- We shape the tooth and take a measurement (impression).
- A temporary cap protects the tooth while the final crown or bridge is made.
- At the next visit we fit and adjust the final crown or bridge.
